Latest Elephant Capture 23/6/09
Today there was no elephant capture. It seems the elephants have moved away from the area behind Club Makakola, and the Capture Team may have to range more widely to find the remaining elephants. The court case which was lodged with the High Court earlier in the month will meet on Thursday the 25th of June to rule on whether or not an Environmental Impact Assessment will be necessary. It may be that the elephants which were moved will have to be relocated back to the Phirilongwe area if the court finds in the plantif's favour. It is hoped that in the next few days, IFAW will join the call for an independent EIA which will allow the Malawi Government to make an informed decision about the elephants' future.
